Why Canada |
Canada is really just a land of immigrants. Canadians are therefore very supportive of the government's official policy of 'multiculturalism' . New Canadians are encouraged to keep their cultural heritage and to allow it to grow and thrive in their new homeland. It is for this reason that Canada has been called the place where everybody belongs.
Canada has a relatively low population. Canada's population is only 30 million, yet the nation is the second largest in the world. About 77% of Canadians live in cities, and most are between the ages of 25 and 34.Language is one of the things that makes Canada unique. 60% of Canadians speak English as their main language, 24% French, and 16% other. Chinese ranks as the second most spoken language in Canada, outside English and French.
Primary and secondary education is free. Post-secondary education is heavily subsidized: more than 80% of tuition costs are paid by the government in most provinces. This makes Canada's workforce one of the world's most educated and highly skilled. 40% of Canada's workforce has a college diploma. That's more than the United States, Australia, Germany, Britain and France. The average size of classroom for elementary school is 16 students.
Canada is remarkably free of violent race, class or ethnic conflicts. It is known throughout the world as one of the safest places to live.
Canada has one of the world's healthiest populations. This is a direct result of its universal and comprehensive health care system. There are more than 55,000 licensed physicians in Canada. That's one for every 520 of Canada's men, women and children. Each year, the government spends $52 billion on health care, about $1800 per year for each of Canadian. Visiting the doctor in Canada is free, and no Canadian is forced to pay for hospital bills.
The average Canadian lives 77.4 years, only nine months behind the highest in the world. That's more than one year longer than the average Briton, two years longer than the average American, and SEVEN years longer than the average Chinese. Canadian citizens also enjoy a thick blanket of social services.
Canada is also a very comfortable place to live. Heated homes, and personal automobiles are considered necessities. Nearly 100% of Canadian homes have a color TV. Over 80% have microwave ovens, 79% have VCR's, 40% have a CD player, and 25% have a home computer
Lastly, Canadians have the freedom to travel all over the world. Over 14 million Canadians visited the United States last year. Over 76% of Canadians traveled somewhere last year, more than 25% went outside Canada. It is for these reasons among others, that immigration to Canada has become a dream shared by thousands around the world.
